CRIPA welcomes 11 new members to strengthen its expertise in research on infectious porcine and poultry diseases

Saint-Hyacinthe, November 8, 2024 – The Swine and Poultry Infectious Diseases Research Center (CRIPA) is proud to announce the arrival of 11 new members who will enrich its multidisciplinary research initiatives in animal health. Among these new members are four co-researchers and seven collaborators, each bringing unique expertise and valuable skills to advance CRIPA’s research projects.

 

New co-researchers

Among the co-researchers, CRIPA is delighted to welcome:

 

  • Mariana Baz, assistant professor at Laval University Laval and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Prepandemic and Pandemic Viruses and Therapeutic Strategies, brings her indispensable expertise in vaccine strategies, strengthening CRIPA’s capacity to innovate in the field of viral disease prevention.

  • Charles Calmettes, associate professor at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS),  leads a technology platform focused on the development of a multi-serotype vaccine against Streptococcus suis, a collaboration with CRIPA members. His expertise is in the development of new vaccination strategies.

  • Fanny Renois, already a collaborator of CRIPA, becomes associate professor in food safety at the University of Montreal and joins the co-researchers. Her transition to a co-researcher role reflects her commitment to advancing research on food safety, a key public health issue.

  • David Roy, assistant professor at Univeristy of Montreal, completes this team of co-researchers with his expertise which will enrich research initiatives on pathogenic bacteria and antibiotic resistance.


New collaborators

CRIPA is delighted to welcome seven new collaborators.

 

As part of the European HORIZON program on the theme Study the role of the immune system on farm animals, CRIPA is working with the INRAE ​​team in Nouzilly, France, and is welcoming Ignacio Caballero, Ferdinand Roesch and Sascha Trapp. Their collaboration will allow European and Canadian expertise to be combined in immunological research applied to pig and poultry production.

 

In order to strengthen partnerships with the International Associated Laboratory NutriMod and the Carnot Institute in France, CRIPA is enriched by the expertise of Agnès Narcy and Rodrigo Guabirata-Brito, also from INRAE ​​in Nouzilly. These links will make it possible to develop innovative nutrition programs, essential for animal welfare.


Finally, as part of CRIPA’s collaboration with Quebec Biotech EVAH Corp., researchers Hicham Bessaiah and Imene Kouidmi are joining the team of collaborators, bringing a crucial industrial perspective to its research.

Its mission is to improve the control of pathogens that affect the pig and poultry industries, having an economic impact and on the health of populations.
